What final expense insurance is

Final expense insurance, also called burial insurance, is a small whole life insurance policy meant to cover a funeral and final bills, so your family doesn’t have to. It is usually sold to people roughly 50 to 85, often with a few health questions instead of a medical exam.

These guides explain what funerals really cost, what Social Security, the VA and state programs do and don’t pay, how waiting periods work, what you can still get after 80, and how to spot ads that promise “government” benefits that don’t exist. Terms, prices and eligibility vary by insurance company, age, health and state.
